GoSomething: A Social Action Platform for Contributive Travel

Yesterday, I met up with Andrea Armeni, founder of GoSomething. GoSomething is "an action platform for engaged travelers who contribute to the communities they visit. You can connect with like-minded individuals, find out about existing projects and develop your own projects."

If you get a chance, have a look at Andrea's conceptual overview for GoSomething.

On a more personal note
As I wrap up my trip to the Bay Area, one thing is for sure: I could never live here. The people I am meeting live, breath, and sleep nonprofit technology.

If I were to live here, my work day would have no beginning and no end. Every conversation of every day would relate directly or indirectly to technology, the nonprofit sector, and the inspiring work that's going down in this city.

I'm looking forward to my return trip to Montreal, where I get to leave my nonprofit technology hat on the "virtual office" at the end of each work day. SF, I'm not sure how you do it!

Hi Peter. I just joined the social actions community, but I feel like I already know you from Christine! I looked at this site briefly and really like their idea of partnering somehow with groups like couchsurfing.com? People from all over the world have bunked with some Peace Corps friends of mine here in Jordan, and they certainly learn a lot about culturally appropriate travel, local people, etc. Any idea on the time-line for getting the site up and running from your conversations?

Hi Lexi, Great to meet you! GoSomething is already online in private beta. If you write to the founder, Andrea Armeni, I think he would give you access to the system. I'll point him to this blog entry for follow-up. Would love to learn more about what you're working on in Jordan. All the best, Peter

Lexi, nice to meet you virtually through Peter and Social Actions, and thank you for your interest in GoSomething. You sound like a perfect GoSomething member so I look forward to seeing you in the community soon!

Technologically, it's a very interesting moment for GoSomething. We are testing a few different platforms to see which one will shoot us best... the delay in the public launch is merely a function of the breadth of excellent opportunities that are currently available. To anyone out there who has any tech suggestions for us (or, indeed, any feedback at all), please send it along!

And remember: Go Somewhere, Do Something!

Hey Lexi, how great to see you here! Peter, great to know you were able to spend some additional time with Andrea and to give GoSomething some exposure here.

Andrea, it was great to meet you at N2Y3 and I sincerely applaud what you're building at GoSomething. A local connection for you comes to mind -- Journeys International (http://www.journeys.travel/) here in Ann Arbor might be a strong travel agency partner. Looking forward to your launch!

Christine! I had hoped to find you somewhere since I don't have your info and we never finished our chat at N2Y3. Thank you for following GoSomething's slow-ish progress... please send me yr email address so we can keep up the conversation off-forum! Best, Andrea
